Frequently Asked Questions

+ How do I navigate the Site?

darkmatter publishes content in regular Issues. Special Issues are either thematic or research based. General Issues publish rolling content. Reviews are more frequently published and may appear in either a special or general issue. Content classified as an Article has been externally peer-reviewed.

+ How can I contribute work to darkmatter?

Please read the Submission page for further information.

+ What is the Newsletter?

Keep informed of new content without visiting the site. You will receive an occassional email, with a digest listing new content. If there are no new significant number of postings, you won’t receive any email. The Newsletter will be mainly used to inform you of special Journal Issues.

Note: the Newsletter is hosted by an external service provided by the UK Universities JISCMAIL which has a strict privacy policy. An unsubscribe link is displayed in every message you receive.
If you are experiencing problems with subscribing/receiving the Newsletter, use the contact page to email the darkmatter admin. Or you may have to check your junk or spam filters and/or contact the administrator of your email account and inform them to allow posts from LISTSERV@jiscmail.ac.uk.

+ Why doesn’t my comment show up?

When you first post a comment, it will be in a queue for moderation. After approval, you will be able to post subsequent comments directly.

+ What are Tags?

These enable you to quickly search darkmatter for similar types of entries – those that have been ‘tagged’ with keywords. You can search for Tags either from those listed below an entry, or from the Tag top menu bar.

+ The Site does not display properly?

Try refreshing the page or then clearing the cache of your browser – see the howto. The site works best with Javascript turned on in your browser.

+ The audio player does not display properly?

You may need to update the Flash version installed on your browser – Flash version check.

+ I’m having problems logging in

Only approved Contributors can log in. Check that you are using your correct username and password – both are case sensitive.

+ How do I change my password?

After logging-in, go to your profile page, and scroll down to see the change password boxes.

+ Why are you called darkmatter?

+ How has this site been developed?

With a ‘free culture’ and ‘open access’ ethic; created with the open source WordPress software platform. While you can use any modern browser, we recommend using Firefox to view darkmatter. If you are interested in finding more about how the site is being developed, read the darkmatter blog development posts on the web-admin’s blog.

+ Privacy

After subscribing to the Newsletter (or registering as a Contributor), your email address is never disclosed to any other third parties or traded. It is only used for the purposes of identifying you for the Newsletter (and/or Contributor registration).
